ŠTIP MUNICIPALITY


'Štip' (Macedonian: Штип) is a municipality in eastern Republic of Macedonia. ''Štip'' is also the name of the town where the municipal seat is found.

Geography


The borders of the municipality expand on a territory of 583.24 km². Through the municipality runs the river Bregalnica.
The municipality borders Probištip municipality and Sveti Nikole in the north, Radoviš and Karbinci in the east, Lozovo and Gradsko in the west and Negotino and Konče municipality in the south.

Demographics


At the census of 2002 the municipality had 47,796 residents. At the census taken in 1994 the number of inhabitants was 46,372. Most of them live in the municipality center Štip , approximately 40,000, the others live in the villages.
Ethnic groups in the municipality (2002 census):

★ Macedonians = 41,670

★ Roma = 2,195

★ Vlachs = 2,074

★ Turks = 1,272

★ others.
