ŽALVARINIS

'Žalvarinis' is a folk metal band from Vilnius, Lithuania. They typically play slow paced music with exclusively Lithuanian lyrics and primarily female vocals. Some of their songs exhibit vocals in the style of traditional Lithuanian polyphonic chant (''sutartinės'').
The band was formed in 2001 as a collaboration of the black metal band ''Ugnėlakis'' and pagan folk band ''Kūlgrinda'', as evidenced by the title of their first album.
Their song "Aš kanapį sėjau" (from their 2005 album ''Žalio vario'') was featured on ''Transformations in Lithuanian Song'', a 2006 compilation CD that covered the development of Lithuanian folk music over many years, published by the Lithuanian-American journal ''Lituanus''.
