Battle of Jarnac - Royalist troops under Marshal
Gaspard de Tavannes surprise and defeat the Huguenots under the
Prince of Condé, who is captured and murdered. A substantial proportion of the Huguenot army manages to escape under
Gaspard de Coligny.
