Notes

★ Fastest Lap: Michael Schumacher 1m 24.475s

★ Jacques Villeneuve remarkably wins the race after being stuck in the pitlane for half a minute, due to problem with his first pitstop

★ Damon Hill finally scored his first points for the Arrows team after a late retirement for Shinji Nakano. The crowd were happy.

★ Mika Häkkinen seemed set for his first win but his engine blew, the Finn threw his race gloves into the crowd and lapped their applause.

★ Michael Schumacher led by some 30 seconds before a wheel bearing failure caused retirement.

★ The first podium for Alexander Wurz.
