2002 FED CUP
The '2002 Fed Cup' was the 40th edition of the most important competition between national teams in women's tennis. The World Group was revamped once again, this time as a 16-team knockout tournament, much like the Davis Cup format. 83 nations participated in the tournament. In the final, Slovakia defeated Spain, at the Palacio de Congresos de Maspalomas in Gran Canaria, Spain, on 2-3 November, giving Slovakia their first title.
First round losers compete in Play-off ties with Zonal Group I Qualifiers.
