2007 SUGAR BOWL

The '2007 Allstate Sugar Bowl Game' is a college football bowl game. It is part of the 2006-2007 Bowl Championship Series (BCS) of the 2006 NCAA Division I-BS football season and it was the 73rd Sugar Bowl. It was played on January 3, 2007, in the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans. The game matched the 2006 Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team against the 2006 LSU Tigers football team and was televised on Fox.
This game received extra attention due to the fact that it is the return of the Sugar Bowl to New Orleans. In 2006, the game was played at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia due to the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina to the Superdome. LSU won the 2007 contest 41-14, tying the Notre Dame-LSU series at 5-5.

Aftermath

★ After the game, Russell stated that he did not know whether or not he would enter the 2007 NFL Draft.

★ Critics called Notre Dame, who have not won a bowl game since 1994, one of the most overrated teams in college football.[1] Notre Dame has now lost a record-setting nine bowl games in a row,[2] including losing three straight BCS bowl games by wide point margins. The loss for Notre Dame fueled controversy as to whether the rules make it too easy for Notre Dame to get into a BCS game while potentially more deserving teams are excluded.[3]
