3 Underrated Cruise Activities and Experiences

Whether you’re searching for cruises with Hurtigruten or Carnival, there are certain cruise experiences which should not be missed. While a cruise seems like something that anybody could figure out, there are actually quite a few activities that people overlook. You’re free to enjoy your cruise however you wish, but you might make the most of the experience by learning from the cruising knowledge of experienced cruisers, some of which are contained here in this guide.

Oceanview Cabins

People tend to look for savings in inside cabins (those without windows to the sea) or splurge on balcony cabins that allow for walking and lounging immediately outside the bedroom. While both of these options have their place, it’s perhaps the ocean view cabins that have the best of both worlds. These reasonably priced cabins are little fought over and feature windows to the outside world. You’ll have to venture out to the deck to get the best of the outside experience, but you can at least see the action from your bedroom.

Don’t Visit the Port

Port stops can be fun, but they can also be expensive, crowded, too short to do anything significant, and built for the touristiest of tourists. Instead, stay aboard ship and enjoy the thrill of having the whole place to yourself. You can explore the entire vessel in relative peace and quiet. You can also enjoy discounts at the spa and other on-board facilities. You can have the bartender’s undivided attention, or the most peaceful time of relaxation out in the sun on the deck. No one is urging you to be a recluse, but staying aboard during a port stop is definitely an underrated experience, especially if you have already been to that port stop before.

The MDR

The cruise’s Main Dining Room is a place where you don’t have to pay for the food, and you can eat as much as you like. This is an amazing value that everyone should take advantage of, even as the expensive celebrity labelled restaurants at other parts of the ship beckon. Oftentimes, these facilities are run by chefs just as competent as those in the more expensive eateries. You may even find it to be less crowded.

Bonus Tip: DO NOTHING!

Some people feel the pressure, when taking a cruise, to cram each moment full of activity. They want to see everything the ship has to offer, and make this trip a vacation to remember! While no one is telling you to avoid fun and frivolity, it is certainly possible to lose the relaxation and enjoyment of a holiday by trying to cram too much activity into it. If you need rest and peace, take it. Don’t put anything on the daily docket. Just go where the sea takes you and enjoy a time without responsibility.

There are plenty of ways to enjoy a cruise. If you don’t have much experience in the world of cruising, take some time to find out what you’ll enjoy most, then make those activities happen once you’re on board.
