4TH OF JULY (TUGS EPISODE)
'"4th of July"/ "Regatta" ' was the twelfth episode of the children's television series TUGS.
It's almost the 4th of July and in Bigg City everyone is preparing for a huge regatta. But excitement turns to disaster when Lillie Lightship is in danger of sinking and the navy attempt to blow up Grampus.
★ This episode is believed to have came after "High Tide" in the chronological order of the series, as in "High Tide", we see Big Mickey working, before he collapses in "Munitions" (the episode before "4th of July/Regatta").
★ We see the second and last of two appearances of the Coast Guard's Messenger in this episode (he appeared as the 'mad speedboat' who causes OJ to collide with The Fultan Ferry in "Quarantine").
★ This is the first appearance of The Garbage Master.
★ This episode features more characters than any other TUGS episode.
★ This is the first time in the series that another character becomes a Star Fleet member, as Grampus joins the fleet at the end of the episode.
★ Big Mickey appears to be loading the Princess Alice whilst the regatta goes on, showing that she had been fully fixed after being brought in for repairs during "High Winds".
★ There is a possible hint towards Bigg City being set in 1920's America, when Sally Seaplane is seen with an American Flag and Jack The Grappler has a Uncle Sam-like hat on.
★ The "Blinded Tramp Steamer" which hits Lillie appears to be Johnny Cuba without a face or hat.
★ Jack the Grappler's only major speaking appearance.
