A2/2


The London and North Eastern Railway A2/2 were formers members of Sir Nigel Gresley’s P2 Class, when Sir Nigel Gresley died on 5 April 1941, Edward Thompson got appointed on the 28 April 1941, During the war the London, Midland and Scottish Railway & SR Were building new Locomotives, Edward Thompson decided to gain experience by rebuilding one of the P2, the first P2 to change was No.2005, Thane Of Fife, rebuilt in January 1943, Edward Thompson Change the Wheel arrangement from 2-8-2 to 4-6-2, all the other P2 were rebuilt during 1944.
Withdrawals of the class began in 1959 staring with 60505 Thane Of Fife on 10 November 1959, the next A2-2 to be withdrawn was Lord President on The 27 November 1959, 60501 Cock o' the North got withdrawn in 1960 while 60502, 60504 and 20506 were withdrawn in 1961 with 60502 the last member of the class withdrawn on the 3 July 1961
During their lifetime in steam Earl Marischal is the only P2/A2/2 to cover over one million miles in service 360,907 as a P2 and 673,947 as a A2/2, non of the Class has made it in Preservation
