AFC LEOPARDS
'AFC Leopards' are a football club based in Nairobi, Kenya. They are one of the two most popular Kenyan football clubs (the other being local rivals Gor Mahia). AFC Leopards have won the Kenyan football league 12 times and the Kenyan cup five times. The club was formed in 1964 as 'Abaluhya FC' when anumber of small clubs amalgamated [1]. The name was changed to AFC Leopards in 1980, when the Kenyan government banned tribal names (Abaluhya refers to the Luhya tribe). The home ground of the club is Nyayo Stadium. Like many other traditional Kenyan clubs, AFC Leopards are now in severe financial difficulties due to mismanagement. They used to play in the Kenyan Premier League for decades, but were relegated after the 2005-2006 season. They are now set to play in National Super League, the second level division in Kenya.
Despite these shortcomings AFC Leopards remain a popular club especially among the Luhya community of Kenya's western province
