ADAMBAKKAM
'Adambakkam' (Tamil:
ஆதம்பாக்கம்) is a suburb of Chennai, a city situated on the east coast of the southern India. It is a thickly populated suburb flanking the railway line, close to the St. Thomas Mount Railway Station, Chennai. Adambakkam is surrounded by suburbs such as Alandur, Madipakkam, Nanganallur and Velachery. The residents mostly belong to the middle and upper middle classes. Unlike many other suburbs in Chennai, this place has more individual houses rather than apartments and so it makes an ideal residential place. In the past few years there had been acute water problems which was historically very rare to this locality. Mainly because this area had been a lake area and so it was never short of ground water and yearly rainfall was catering to the water needs to the residents. This is one of the localities in Chennai which has come up without much planning contribution from Municipality for a long time. Lately this place has been blessed with underground drainage, relayed roads and surprisingly broad band connection as well.
Adambakkam has many sub-localities, such as AGS Colony, Bhagyammal Nagar, Brindavan Nagar, EB Colony, New Colony, NGO Colony, Ramakrishnapuram, and others. Ramakrishnapuram connects Brindavan Nagar and Kakkan Nagar via Kakkan Bridge. Adambakkam post office is located in Ramakrishnapuram locality.
