ADRIAN, ARCHBISHOP OF YORK
'Adrian' was born in Africa and became abbot of the monastery at Nerida, in Naples. He was appointed Archbishop of Canterbury in 664 by Pope Vitalian but refused, and choose instead to travel to England with St Theodore of Tarsus on missionary work. In 668 Theodore of Tarsus was appointed Archbishop of Canterbury and made Adrian abott of the nearby monastery of Saint Peter and Paul, later called Saint Augustine's.
Adrian died in the year 710. St Adrian's feast day is on the 9 January.
