AGARAK
'Agarak' () is a city established in 1949, in Syunik province, Armenia. Located on the left bank of river Araks on the border with Iran, 9km to the south-west of Meghri. Railway station on the demolished and non-functioning branch Yerevan—Nakhichevan—Horadiz.
Agarak is considered to be a miners' city, and is a center of non-ferrous metallurgy. In 2000 copper-molybdenic industrial was recovered. Currently it provides around 1000 people with work, which makes around fifth part of the whole population.
Customs and frontier market are located in the city.
Armenian part of Iran-Armenia gas pipeline started on 30 November 2004 in Agarak
city.
