AGGLOMERATION COMMUNITY OF NICE CôTE D'AZUR
The 'Agglomeration community of Nice Côte d'Azur' (French: ''communauté d'agglomération Nice Côte d'Azur''), also known by its initials 'CANCA', is the intercommunal structure gathering the city of Nice (France) and some of its suburbs.
The Agglomeration community of Nice Côte d'Azur encompasses essentially the eastern part of the metropolitan area of Nice (see infobox at Nice article for the metropolitan area), the western communes of the metropolitan area around Cannes and Antibes having refused to join in.
Those parts of the metropolitan area that are not inside the CANCA have formed different intercommunal structures, such as:
★ Agglomeration community of Sophia-Antipolis (''Communauté d'agglomération de Sophia-Antipolis''): 159,392 inhabitants, with Antibes in it
★ Agglomeration community of the Middle Provence Country (''Communauté d'agglomération du Moyen Pays Provençal''): 65,614 inhabitants
★ Commune community of the Paillons Country (''Communauté de communes du Pays des Paillons''): 20,716 inhabitants
★ etc.
As of the beginning of 2005, Cannes itself and the few communes around Cannes still refuse to join any intercommunal structure or to create one of their own.
