Alan began editing with Storyteller Productions on various shows including ''Animal Allies'' and ''Malice or Mutiny: The Koolama Incident''. He attended TAFE in Perth, Western Australia.
In late 2004, Alan moved to the UK and worked around London and Belfast. After returning to Australia in 2007, Alan has continued freelance film editing, writing and directing.
