ALAN OSMOND
'Alan Ralph Osmond' (born June 22, 1949) was a member of the 1970s music group The Osmonds and the head of the Osmond Family. Osmond dated the Carpenters' lead singer, Karen Carpenter. He married Suzanne Pinegar on July 16, 1974; they have eight sons who perform as The Osmonds - Second Generation.
Alan's son Michael has five children Suzannah Renee, Sarah Anne, Sasha Louise, Sean Michael, and Sophie Osmond. His son Douglas has two children and one due in March of 2007 Maximus Douglas and Ivy Shelle Osmond are the eldest children of Doug Osmond. His son Nathan Osmond has two children Zachary Nathan and Corbin Alan Osmond and son Scott Osmond has one son, Caleb Osmond. Son, Jon Osmond, as of July 5, 2007 is the father of Luke Jonathan Osmond.
He was the oldest of his nine siblings who could sing. The two oldest brothers, Virl and Tom, are deaf.
Alan kept the Osmond Brothers together for almost 40 years. Throughout the 1970s, he made every crucial decision and managed to keep a steady, equal pay for his younger brothers. Because of Donny Osmond's break with the group, Alan and the other members of the group were unable to perform live for almost two years. After that, they toured with him, mostly as background singers. Eventually Alan was unable to perform due to multiple sclerosis. In 1996, he retired as leader of the Osmond Brothers and now performs with his brothers only on rare occasions.
In 2000, Alan received the Dorothy Corwin Spirit of Life Award from the National Multiple Sclerosis Socity. In his acceptance speech, he stated that he had done some time in the military and that he had taken karate lessons from Chuck Norris, both of which reinforced the "you can do it" attitude that he learned from his father. His motto is, "I may have MS, but MS does NOT have me!" He currently runs the OneHeart Foundation and is also available as a motivational speaker.
Alan recently started One Heart, a non-profit foundation, to help "strengthen families" worldwide. Thefamily.com is also a family site to carry free content to all families.
Alan and Suzanne Osmond have eight sons who are known as The Osmonds - Second Generation. Besides having hit records, they have all achieved Eagle Scout awards and six of them have served internationally for two years as full time missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The younger two brothers plan on serving in the future.
