'ALDO' is a worldwide chain of shoe stores founded by 'Aldo Bensadoun' in Montreal, Quebec in 1972. ALDO Group was founded in 1972, within a chain of popular fashion boutiques all of which operated under the name ALDO. Later the companies products would be sold out of its own stores with the first four company stores opening in Quebec in the mid-70's It is now a worldwide company, with over 800 stores under 8 prominent retail banners (ALDO, Stoneridge, FeetFirst, FIRST by FeetFirst, Transit/Spring, Globo, Aldo Accessories) each catering to a distinct well-defined customer group. There are also ALDO outlet and Spring outlet and clearance stores. Canadian, American and UK stores are corporate stores while the stores in the other countries are franchisee. The company also used to operate stores under the banners Simard and Pegabo, which have since been merged into the other banners. By 2009 all of the current Transit stores will be re-branded as Spring stores.

Aldo Bensadoun completes his French military service, teaching Economics at the École de Cavalerie de Saumur. Shortly thereafter, he returns to his favourite city, this time making Montreal his home.

ALDO initiates its retail entry into the U.S. market. The first ALDO U.S. store opens near Boston, Massachusetts. Over the course of the next 9 years, approximately 125 stores open in the U.S. alone. By the end of this period ALDO also operates over 180 successful stores in regional malls and key fashion street locations in most major Canadian urban centers.
ALDO opens in London, England, in prime locations on both Oxford (3) and Neal Street (1) in addition to mall locations in Basingstoke, Uxbridge, Camden, Croydon, Kent & Southampton.
With the success of ALDO's stores in the United Kingdom, the brand continues its global expansion. Over the past number of years the company has expanded into across more than 35 countries worldwide, including the Australia, Israel, Poland, and Switzerland. There are also more than 400 stores in Canada and 220 stores in the United States. Plans are currently being made to expand in to China, Russia, Venezuela, Turkey, Romania and Panama.

The company has donated millions of dollars to AIDS awareness and organizations such as CanfAR, AmfAR, the Terrence Higgins Trust and YouthAIDS. ALDO has teamed up with YouthAIDS to raise money in order to educate people worldwide about HIV/AIDS. Tags featuring the phrases "HEAR", "SEE", and "SPEAK" and limited edition tote bags are now being sold at ALDO stores and online to help fund YouthAIDS HIV-prevention initiatives around the world. The campaign has been endorsed by many top celebrities who are featured in the advertising and as well as instore items. Currently the campaign is running in over twenty countries and 100% of the net proceeds for the sale of the tags sold benefit YouthAIDS. Currently over 2.8 Million dollars has been raised.
