ALLEN SHAWN

'Allen Shawn' (b. 1948) is an American composer who lives in the U.S. state of Vermont.
Among available recordings of his work are several CDs of chamber music, a CD of piano music, and a recording of his ''Piano Concerto'' performed by Ursula Oppens with the Albany Symphony Orchestra, directed by David Alan Miller. Shawn composed ''And in the air these sounds...'' for baritone and orchestra a work celebrating John Stein's one hundreth birthday that premiered with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra in spring of 2003.
Shawn is also the author of a book about twentieth century Austrian composer Arnold Schoenberg entitled ''Arnold Schoenberg's Journey.''
He is the son of ''The New Yorker'' editor William Shawn and the brother of actor and playwright Wallace Shawn. He was formerly married to novelist Jamaica Kincaid and teaches at Bennington College.
