ALLENSTOWN, NEW HAMPSHIRE
'Allenstown' is a town in Merrimack County, New Hampshire, USA. The population was 4,843 at the 2000 census. Allenstown includes a portion of the village of Suncook.

History
Allenstown takes its name from 17th-century provincial governor Samuel Allen. It was granted in 1721 but not incorporated until 1831. A part of Allenstown was lost to Bow in 1815, and another part to Hooksett in 1853.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 53.4 km² (20.6 mi²). 53.2 km² (20.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water, comprising 0.53% of the town. The highest point in Allenstown is ''Bear Hill'' (835 feet / 255 meters above sea level). Allenstown lies fully within the Merrimack River watershed. Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there were 4,843 people, 1,902 households, and 1,253 families residing in the town. The population density was 91.1/km² (235.9/mi²). There were 1,962 housing units at an average density of 36.9/km² (95.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 97.83% White, 0.50% African American, 0.23% Native American, 0.37% Asian, 0.27% from other races, and 0.81% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.18% of the population.
There were 1,902 households out of which 34.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.7% were married couples living together, 10.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.1% were non-families. 27.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the town the population was spread out with 27.3% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 34.3% from 25 to 44, 21.1% from 45 to 64, and 10.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 93.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.0 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $41,958, and the median income for a family was $51,659. Males had a median income of $35,520 versus $25,430 for females. The per capita income for the town was $18,851. About 2.2% of families and 3.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.8% of those under age 18 and 4.7% of those age 65 or over.
