ALTA RIVER
'Alta River' () is a small river in Ukraine, a right tributary of Trubizh River. The ancient town of Pereyaslav (currently Pereiaslav-Khmelnytskyi, Ukraine) is situated between the Trubizh and Alta rivers.
The river is considered a place there the assassins sent by Svyatopolk the Accursed killed saints Boris and Gleb in 1015. In 1019 it was the place of the battle between Svyatopolk and his brother, Yaroslav I the Wise, there Yaroslav prevailed.
In 1068 the river was the place of Iziaslav I of Kiev defeat from Polovtsy.
On 25 May 1630 [1] the river near Pereyaslav was the place of a defeat of Polish hetman Stanisław Koniecpolski from the Zaporozhian Cossacks under Taras Triasylo. The battle is known as the Taras Night and is described in Taras Shevchenko poem ''Taras Nich''
