ALTONA, BERGEN
'Altona' is one of the oldest taverns in Bergen, Norway. It dates from around 1600 and used to stand on the site of the present "Augustine Hotel." It was renowned as a base for Bergen artists and musicians. Ole Rødder, who was ''Musikselskabet Harmonien's'' (which later became the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra) first paid concertmaster, and other luminaries of the 1700s were regular visitors. Harmonien rehearsed in Altona for many years in the 1700s. The wine cellar of Altona was renovated and re-opened to the public in 1997.
