'Amity Island' is a fictional island which appears as the setting of the novel and films ''Jaws'' (1975), ''Jaws 2'' (1978), and in the 1987 film ''.
In the novel ''Jaws'', Amity is a small island off the coast of Long Island, much like Shelter Island and Block Island.
The film does not specify which state Amity belongs to, although Mayor Vaughn suggests the proximity of Amity Island to the Long Island beaches and Cape Cod, which suggests it is either in the state of New York or Southern New England. In shooting the film, Martha's Vineyard portrayed Amity Island.
Amity Island's name may be in reference to the village of Amityville, New York, on Long Island.
