AMPHITHEATRE, VICTORIA
'Amphitheatre' is a small town in Victoria, Australia. It is located on the Pyrenees Highway in the Pyrenees Shire, south-west of Avoca. At the 2006 census, Amphitheatre and the surrounding area had a population of 291.[1]
Amphitheatre was originally located further south of its current location, in the natural amphitheatre that exists there and after which it is named. At the end of the gold mining period of the late 1800s it was moved to the highway. A plaque remains in the original location as the only reminder of this.
