AMPHOE NA KAE


'Na Kae' () is a district (''Amphoe'') in the province Nakhon Phanom in the northeast of Thailand.

Neighboring districts are (from the north clockwise) Wang Yang, Pla Pak, Renu Nakhon and That Phanom of Nakhon Phanom Province, Dong Luang of Mukdahan Province, and Tao Ngoi and Khok Si Suphan of Sakon Nakhon Province.

History


The district goes back to ''Mueang'' Kabil (เมืองกบิล), which was deserted after it was invaded by an enemy army. It was later resettled by Lao people.
The district name means ''Field of Kae trees'', which grew a lot in the swampy areas.

Administration


The district is subdivided into 12 subdistricts (''tambon''), which are further subdivided into 127 villages (''muban''). Na Kae itself has township (''thesaban tambon'') status and covers part of the ''tambon'' Na Kae. There are further 12 ''tambon'' Tambon administrative organization (TAO).
