'Ankang' () is a medium-sized city in
Shaanxi province,
China.
History
The first known record of Ankang in history happened when it was placed into Xicheng prefecture (西城县) of Hanchong County (汉中郡) during the
Qin dynasty。 In
1783, the place was named "Ankang prefecture". The prefecture was upgrade to city in
1950, but demoted in
1954, and promoted again in
1988.
In the 1930 the name of the city of Ankang was 'Shingan'
Attractions
Ankang is fortunate to be far away enough from Xi'an to minimise its levels of pollution while being close enough for it to be a mere 5 hour journey by train. It is surrounded by several mountains which you can get to by a half an hour bus ride from the city.
Economy
The economy of the city is basically industrial, mainly in textile and weaving of silk products, chemical industry, building materials, food production and mining.
Infrastructure
★ There is an airport in Ankan (Ankang Airport), which opened in
1938. There are flights to/fro Xi'an.

January 8,
2001 a new railway track between Ankang and Xi'an was opened, allowing for access from the province capital in a few hours.
Geography
Ankang is situated in the southern section of
Shaanxi province, south of the
Qinling Mountain range. The upper parts of the
Han river passes through Ankang.
