'Antelope Valley Transit Authority' is the transit agency serving the cities of Palmdale and Lancaster and their suburbs. Antelope Valley Transit Authority is operated under contract by Veolia Transport, and is affiliated and offers connecting services with Metro and Metrolink.

History
The Cities of Palmdale and Lancaster and the County of Los Angeles joined together in 1992 to create the ''Antelope Valley Transit Authority'' to meet the growing need for public transportation in the Antelope Valley. AVTA began local transit service on July 1, 1992 with three types of services: Transit, Commuter and Dial-A-Ride. A fourth service, Access Services, was created in 1996 to provide the disabled with a local complementary paratransit service in line with the Americans with Disabilities Act. In 1998 the ''Tuesday Medical Shuttle'' was created, which offered rides to nine major medical facilities in the Los Angeles basin and San Fernando Valley.
About AVTA
AVTA has tripled the number of passenger trips in just over a decade of operation. To keep up with the increased need for transit services, AVTA recently opened a new, larger maintenance facility in Lancaster.
AVTA pays for a much higher share of its costs through fares compared to other transit systems in Los Angeles County.
Awards
AVTA is an award-winning transit agency. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors recognized AVTA as an “Efficient Transit System”. The California Transit Association gave a “Transit Innovation Award” to AVTA in 1998 and a “Transit Image Award” in 1999.

Route 1- Lancaster/Palmdale
Begins in East Palmdale and Ends in Central Lancaster. Travels include Avenue S, Sierra Highway, Downtown, Palmdale Transportation Center, Technology Drive, Antelope Valley Mall, and 10th Street West.
Route 2- Palmdale Blvd.
Begins at the Antelope Valley Mall and ends in East Palmdale. Travels include 10th Street West, Palmdale Blvd., and 47th Street East.
Route 3- Avenue R
Begins at the Antelope Valley Mall and ends in East Palmdale. Travels include Rancho Vista Blvd., Sierra Highway, the Palmdale Transportation Center, Avenue R, 40th Street East, and Avenue S.
Route 4- East Avenue K
Begins at Lancaster City Park and ends at the Lancaster Metrolink Station. Travels include Columbia Way, Sierra Highway, Business Center Parkway, Avenue K, and Lancaster Blvd.
Route 5- Avenue L
Begins in Quartz Hill and ends at Lancaster City Park. Travels include Columbia Way, 50th Street West, and Avenue L.
Route 6- Littlerock
Begins in East Palmdale and ends in Sun Village. Travels include Pearblossom Highway, 82nd Street East, Central Littlerock, Avenue T, 87th Street East, Avenue U, 96th Street East, Avenue S, 110th Street East, Palmdale Blvd, 90th Street East, and Avenue R.
Route 7- Quartz Hill
Begins in Downtown Palmdale and ends in Central Lancaster. Travels include the Palmdale Transportation Center, Technology Drive, Rancho Vista Blvd., 50th Street West, Avenue L-8, 60th Street West, and Avenue H.
Route 9- Eastside Palmdale
Begins in Downtown Palmdale and ends in East Palmdale. Travels include Avenue Q, 47th Street East, Avenue S, 60th Street East, Palmdale Blvd., and 70th Street East.
Route 11- Avenue I - 15th Street West
Begins at Lancaster City Park and ends in East Lancaster. Travels include 15th Street West, Lancaster Blvd., Lancaster Metrolink Station, Division Street, and Avenue I.
Route 12- Avenue J
Begins at Lancaster City Park and ends in East Lancaster. Travels include Avenue K-8, Avenue K, 30th Street West, Avenue J, and 40th Street East.
Lake L.A. Express Route
Begins in Downtown Palmdale and ends at Lancaster City Park via Lake Los Angeles. Travels include the Palmdale Transportation Center, Sierra Highway, Rancho Vista Blvd., 40th Street East, Palmdale Blvd., 160th Street East, Avenue P-8, 170th Street East, Avenue N, 155th Street East, Avenue N-8, Avenue J, 20th Street East, and Avenue L.
School Service
School Service routes provide service to and from local High Schools from residential ares. School Service routes are numbered 97 and 99. There is also an extension of route 4. School Service is only operated on school days.
School Routes are:
★ 'Route 4' (Extension) – Antelope Valley High School to Lancaster City Park via 30th Street East and Avenue K.
★ 'Route 97' – Highland High School to the Palmdale Transportation Center.
★ 'Route 99' – Littlerock High School to Lake Los Angeles.
Commuter Services
Commuter Services provides service to and from to major places of employment outside of the Antelope Valley (Routes 785-787). Commuter Services service is only operated Monday - Friday.

Commuter bus line from Lancaster City Park and the Palmdale Transportation Center to Downtown Los Angeles.
Route 786- West Los Angeles
Commuter bus line from Lancaster City Park and the Palmdale Transportation Center to West Los Angeles.
Route 787- San Fernando Valley
Commuter bus line from Lancaster City Park and the Palmdale Transportation Center to the San Fernando Valley.
