ANWAR UDDIN
'Anwar Uddin' (born November 1 1981 in Whitechapel, England) is a professional footballer currently playing with Dagenham & Redbridge in the English League Two, where he plays as a defender and captain. He is of Bangladeshi descent and plays for the national team.
Anwar signed for the club during the summer of 2004 after being released by Bristol Rovers. The no-nonsense defender began his career at West Ham United, working his way up through their youth and reserve teams where he was captain. Uddin was in West Ham's victorious 1999 FA Youth Cup winning squad that defeated Coventry City. Although highly regarded, he was never able to break through to the first team and in February 2002 moved to Sheffield Wednesday.
His stay was brief though, moving to Bristol Rovers the following summer after only 4 months and no appearances for the Championship club. He was an almost ever present in the following season until the end of October, picking up a groin injury which he was to struggle with for the rest of the season.
After making a couple of appearances the following season he was loaned out to Hereford United and Telford United, and was released by Bristol Rovers at the end of the season.
Anni has been one of John Still's most astute signings. Both physically and mentally strong, he generally just gets on with his game without much fuss and is certainly a welcome addition to the Dagenham & Redbridge defence. He seems to have had a positive and calming affect on Ashley too, much in the same way as Lee Matthews did in past seasons.
