'Apollo Tyres Ltd' is a high-performance company and the leading Indian tyre manufacturer with annual revenues of over US$ 1 billion (2006-07). The history of Apollo Tyres dates back to 1975. The first manufacturing facility was established in Perambra outside Cochin in Kerala, where production commenced in 1977, during an era when manufacturing location and annual production limits were set by the Government of India through quotes and licences. Over time, its manufacturing presence in India grew to include the setting up of its flagship facility in Limda outside Baroda city in Gujarat. This unit is currently the largest and most advanced tyre manufacturing facility in South Asia. In 1995, Apollo acquired the Premier Tyres plant in Kalamassery, outside Cochin in Kerala and the building of a dedicated tubes and flaps manufacturing unit in Pune. In 2006-07 the company diversified into the related area of retreading materials and retreaded tyres with a manufacturing unit in Kundli, Haryana.
All Apollo Tyres facilities are equipped with state-of-art-manufacturing capabilities in terms of manpower, material and machines. For research, design and development capabilities, the company has tie-ups with premier polymer, management and design institutes in India and Europe. A dedicated panel of international tyre technologists work tirelessly on compounding and tyre design. It partners with global leaders for strategic sourcing and development of raw materials. The company’s products undergo vigorous testing at the ATP test tracks in Papenburg, the IDIADA in Spain, NTC in Italy and NATC in Nevada, USA. It’s products adhere to quality certifications in India, the African continent, Europe, the US, China and other key global markets.
Apollo offers the widest range of tyres for today’s – commercial vehicles (heavy, medium, light), passenger cars and sport utility vehicles, farm application and specialized off-the-road tyres. The company owns some true “power brands†in the Regal, XT-7, Gold and Acelere ranges. This is manifest in Apollo Acelere winning the Overdrive Automotive Product of the Year 2005 and Apollo Aspire the NDTV Profit -Car India Automotive Product of the Year in 2007.
Some of the cutting edge offerings from Apollo Tyres include – Acelere Wheelz (premium alloy wheels for passenger vehicles), Apollo DuraTreads (pre-cured tread rubber) and Apollo DuraTyre (India’s first branded re-treaded tyre). Diversifying its product portfolio is an integral part of its growth plans to serve the customer in a 360 degree manner, taking care of all his/her automotive mobility requirements.
This is apparent in the company’s annual growth rate with a CAGR of 20% in the last five years, making Apollo Tyres the fastest growing Indian tyre brand and also one of the fastest growth tyre companies in the world. It is a market leader in heavy commercial and light commercial tyres, with a rapid pace of growth in the passenger vehicle tyres segment. The Apollo brand is closest to the customer for all practical purposes. Apollo Tyres has the largest sales and service network in India.

The company runs six HIV-AIDS awareness and prevention health care clinics in India. Called Apollo Tyres Health Care Clinics, these are located in six of India’s largest trans-shipment hubs catering to the health needs of its biggest customer base in commercial vehicle community. Alongside, its manufacturing units undertake community development drives and literacy drives in areas around its plants. Safety drives are organised for passenger and commercial vehicles. In line with the company’s growing ambitions, is the Apollo tennis initiative – Mission 2018, the mission aims to produce an Indian Single’s Grand Slam winner by the year 2018.
