ARPAJON

'Arpajon' is a commune of the Essonne ''département'' in the Île-de-France ''région'', in France. Its postal code is 91290.
Chief town of canton of 9,159 inhabitants, the commune is located at 30 km south of Paris, accessible by the N20, and to 20 km in the north of Étampes. Its inhabitants are ''Arpajonnaises'' and ''Arpajonnais''. Common A a surface of 2.40 km² and culminates to 69 metres.

★ Covered Market of 15th century.

★ A market takes place each Friday since 13th century.

★ The Saint-Clément Church (11th century and 15th centuries). In 1782, Benjamin Franklin there installed the lightning conductor.

★ Arpajon shelters also cinematographic studios in which many films or television broadcasts are shooted.

★ Until 1720, the city was called ''Châtres''. It took its current name following the acquisition of the commune by Louis de Severac, marquis of Arpajon. To the French Revolution, it bore the name of Francval.

Events

The third weekend from September takes place with Arpajon the
''Foire aux haricots'' (The Bean Festival), a trade event and artisanal which lasts four days. The bean celebrated here is the chevrier.
