ARRONDISSEMENTS OF LYON

The city of Lyon, in central France, is divided into 9 arrondissements. Unlike the spiral pattern of the Arrondissements of Paris, or the meandering pattern of those in Marseille, in Lyon they are laid out almost at random, with no obvious pattern.
The two rivers, Saône and Rhône divide the arrondissements into three groups.

★ To the west of the Saône, the 5th arrondissement covers most of the old city of ''Vieux Lyon'' and Fourvière. The 9th is immediately to its North and stretches past Vaise to the neighbouring suburbs of Écully, Champagne-au-Mont-d'Or, Saint-Didier-au-Mont-d'Or and Saint-Cyr-au-Mont-d'Or.

★ Between the two rivers, on the ''presqu'île'' (peninsula) are the 2nd, 1st and 4th. The 2nd includes most of the city centre, Place Bellecour, the train station Gare de Perrache, and reaches as far as the confluence of the two rivers. The 1st is to its north, also including part of the city centre, the Hôtel de ville, and part of the slopes of the Croix-Rousse. The 4th is again further north, and covers the rest of Croix-Rousse, neighbouring with Caluire-et-Cuire.

★ To the east, are the 7th, 8th, 3rd and 6th.
