ASBURY PARK PRESS

The '''Asbury Park Press''' is the major daily newspaper in Monmouth and Ocean counties of Asbury Park, New Jersey, and has third largest circulation in the state.[2] Its recent anti-corruption campaign has resulted in a number of new laws and the 2004/2005 ethics reform movement in New Jersey government. Its investigative staff has been awarded some of the highest honors in journalism including the Selden Ring Award for Investigative Reporting, the Associated Press Managing Editors' Award for Public Service, and the National Headliner Award for Public Service. Its editorial slant is noticeably conservative in nature and was the only major newspaper in New Jersey to endorse George W. Bush in the 2004 election.
The Press was also known for many years for its excellent Sunday comic strips. It once carried the full page Prince Valiant by Hal Foster, half page Tarzan and Star Wars by Russ Manning and third of a page Steve Canyon by Milton Caniff. Its comics section is no longer sought after by collectors today.
