Overview
Asheboro High School is the only high school in the Asheboro City Schools District. The current campus was constructed between 1949 and 1959, with a major addition to the gymnasium made in 1980 and further renovations made in the early 1990s. The recent annexation of the Sir Robert Motel has expanded space for classes and a "Professional Development Center" (nicknamed Comet Corner). The student body consists of approximately 1,300 students.
Safety
The high school was built with a bomb shelter which was build during cold war and can also be used for the shelter during national disaster for the public. It is protected by 12 inch reinforced concrete steel roof and the bomb shelter is located 12 feet below the surface in the basement.
Sports
The high school football team recently received the title, Undefeated Champs, and the coach received national recognition from the National Football Committee. The comets were ranked number two in NC at the end of last season
The school however is famous for its athletic events. It has held number of championships in state and regional level sports. However, they are considered, "way above the bar" when it comes to academics. President George Bush's, no child left behind act requires the goverment agency to step in alter teaching methods, tips and ideas. Unfortunately this also required Asheboro High School to replace many teachers, so the teachers could go to unfortunate schools like Eastern Randolph.
Athletics
Asheboro High School's mascot is the Blue Comet. They play in the NCHSAA's 3-A division.
