ASHFORD, NEW SOUTH WALES

'Ashford' is a town of about 600 people in New South Wales, Australia in Inverell Shire. It is in rolling hills beside Fraser's Creek on the western slopes of the State, close to the Queensland border.
Ashford has a school, basic shops, churches, and recreation and entertainment facilities provide the essentials. It is the hub of a large agricultural area, an active retirement community, and regional tourism. Local attractions include Pindari Dam on the Severn River, MacIntyre Falls, and limestone caves at Kwiambal National Park.
The town's history includes being the seat of the Ashford Shire before amalgamation with adjacent shires including Inverell and Macintyre Shire, numerous tobacco farms, a coal mine, and a coal-fired power station. Farms in the area today produce mostly merino wool and beef.
