ASHLAND HIGH SCHOOL (OHIO)
'Ashland High School' (AHS) is the high school of the Ashland City School District of Ashland, Ohio.
Ashland High school is a relatively small school of around 1,200 students. Nestled in Ashland, Ohio, it has many classes not available at most schools its size. These include but are not limited to: 3 foreign languages (Spanish, French, and Latin), A large post secondary program and several Advanced Placement (A.P.) courses (including A.P. Chemistry, A.P. Biology, A.P. Calculus , A.P. U.S. History, A.P. Statistics, A.P. English, A.P. Government, and A.P. Environmental Science), as well as a large music program which includes 3 Choirs (Concert, Symphonic, and A Capella), a marching band, stage band, jazz band, and an orchestra. Ashland High School also publishes the ''Panorama''. This weekly newspaper has won national awards several times. One of the more noted annual events is the spring musical. Recent productions include ''Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat'', ''Beauty and the Beast'', and ''Damn Yankees''.
As of 2007, the principal of AHS is Robert Lake. The school teams are called the "Ashland Arrows" and school colors are orange and black.
Academic Team -- Teams of students compete in a game of trivia from every subject from history to math to science.
History Club -- Founded by two history teachers, Miss Goode and Miss Nixon, History Club brings in speakers and encourages students to get involved with history.
Junior Classical League -- Also known as "Latin Club," the Junior Classical League (JCL) promotes higher understanding of Latin language, history, and culture.
Drama Club -- Students in Drama Club put on three major productions a year including a fall play, the previously mentioned spring musical, and a spring play.
Video Production -- Taught by Mr. Bradford Benton Carr, this class provides a great insight into movies and all other areas of the media world. When given the opportunity to apply for this fun and entertaining class, there should be no thought involved, just do it. Mr. Carr is the nicest guy you will ever meet and the friendship you can make with him will last forever.
Panorama -- Another Media Arts class, this one is taught by Mr. Barry Fortune (otherwise known as the "seer of all"), this class delves into the massive depths of the journalism world. This is a class for everyone; all you need is a background in writing and Journalism 1, and Journalism 2. Fortune is one of the nicest guys ever, but like with all people, he has his dark side. Avoid it by not making him mad or lying to him. Respect Fortune and all the other students in the class. Plus if you are on staff, respect the Editors this year. I know them, and with their leadership this year’s paper could be great.
