AUGGEN

'Auggen' is a small village in Markgräflerland, which is a region itself inside the larger region of Baden, which is itself a part of Germany. As of 2005, the population of Auggen is 2346. It has a smaller administrative part attached to it governmentally, called Hach. Hach lies to the northeast of Auggen. Auggen lies at the southern end of Breisgau. The area is known, amongst other things, for its "Bio" wine. The vintners of Auggen do not use chemicals in the treatment of the vines, and although this means more cost for the production it generally produces less toxicity than normal production which is still done in the surrounding cities and villages.

Economy

Auggen has very little in the way of retail. The most recently elected Mayor, Fritz Deutschmann, has made one of his main election promises the placement of a grocery store inside of Auggen. He has to date failed in this promise. There is a bakery, some restaurants, a small drugstore, and a petrol (gas) station which has a convenience store attached to it. It is also home to one of Europe's largest computer catalog stores. [1]
Some forms of employment include the Winzergenossenschaft Auggen (a wine growers coop - [2] and a fruit juice producer - [3].
International work also takes place from Auggen. It is the home to New Life Network, (NLN, Inc.) [4], which is an international distributor of television programs, and Genesis Distributions which works with duty free shops internationally [5]

Education

Auggen itself only has an elementary school (in German called Grundschule; ''see'' Education in Germany): Brunwart-von-Augheim-Schule. Further education takes place in nearby cities such as Müllheim and Neuenburg.

Streets

'Lindenweg': Lindenweg is a street that is as children friendly noted. The speed of traffic allowed is 7 km/h or less. It is what is called a play street. Unfortunately this speed limit is almost never held to, and this endangers the children who play on the street.
The greatest danger is for the children at the start of the street. It has been proven that even those who live on the street drive much faster at the start of the street than when it gets to the end in which they mostly live.
'Dietrich Koger Straube': So named after Dietrich Koger, Bergermeister for 33 years during the 1600's.

Transportation

Auggen has its own train stop on the Freiburg/Basel line, serviced by the [Deutsche Bahn].
