AUSTRALIAN FILM COMMISSION

The 'Australian Film Commission' is a government agency established in 1975 as the Australian Film Development Commission. The mandate of the body is to promote the creation and distribution of films in Australia as well as to preserve the country's film history. The AFC has offices in Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney.[1]
The AFC is funded in part by the national government and in part from its return on investments in film production as well as interest on film development loans. It financially assists film and television production and also produces some of its own production.[2]
In May 2007, the Australian Government announced the creation of a new agency, the Australian Screen Authority. The new agency will be formed by the merger of the Australian Film Finance Corporation, Australian Film Commission (which includes the National Film and Sound Archive), and Film Australia, and will take effect on 1 July 2008.
