History

The group was formed in 1994 by Anthony Santos, Lenny Santos, Max Santos and Henry Santos . They originally went by the name Los Teenagers (The Teenagers). They later decided to change their name to Aventura. In 1999, Aventura signed with BMG. Three years later they gained recognition with the album We Broke the Rules and the smash hit Obsesión, now a staple at Latin dance venues around the world. In 2005, Frankie J did an English cover of the song and saw success with it and the remixes that followed.

Musical Style

Aventura created their own unique style of Bachata by infusing the sounds of Hip-Hop, R&B and Reggaeton.[1] They also used both English and Spanish in their lyrics.

Controversy

In late 2006, Aventura was banned from ever performing in the Dominican Republic. The incident involved a minor who got on stage while Aventura was performing and began ''dancing inappropriately'' with member Max Santos. Aventura stated that they did not kdd the girl was a minor. The ban has since been removed.
On February 22, 2007 Anthony Santos won Pop song of the year along with Mexican singer, Thalía for the song "No, No, No" at the 2007 Premios Lo Nuestro . Anthony accepted the award but did not thank Thalía, he instead thanked and dedicated the award to his seven year old son, Alex. Anthony, who composed the song, replied that when he heard he had won the award the only person he could think of was his son, which is why he dedicated the award to him. He apologized to Thalia, who was unable to attend the award ceremony.

Cross-cultural influence

Recently, Priyan Weerappuli, the leader of the Sri Lankan group Pahan Silu, referred to Aventura as being among his greatest musical influences.
