BBC LOOK NORTH (YORKSHIRE AND NORTH MIDLANDS)

'''BBC Look North''' is a name used by the BBC for its local regional news programme in three regions in the North of England. The new corporate titles began on 16 September 2002. The programme can be watched in any part of the UK (and Europe) on digital satellite channel 976 or 977 on the BBC UK regional TV on satellite service.
The Leeds programme covers the areas of Radio Leeds and Radio Sheffield. Due to the size of North Yorkshire, the listenership of Radio York is covered by the geographically-multitudinous Look North programmes from Leeds and Newcastle.

History

The Leeds news programme is broadcast from Emley Moor to Yorkshire and the northern parts of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. The programme has been broadcasting from Leeds since 25 March 1968. This was the main programme for the whole of the Yorkshire region until 11 November 2002, when a new studio had been built in Hull, and the programme split in two. Look North Leeds was produced in a building on Woodhouse Lane, close to the University of Leeds. A new building was built near the West Yorkshire Playhouse on St Peter's Square, and Look North moved there on 27 September 2004. A separate independent Look North (East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire) is hosted by Peter Levy.

Reception issues

Homes in southern areas of North Yorkshire (York and southwards) whose aerials pointing at Bilsdale, receive BBC One North East. This leads to some people in this area receiving BBC One North East, with their 'local' news being mainly from the Newcastle area, whilst most households with their aerials pointing to Emley Moor receive BBC One Yorkshire, based in Leeds, seems much more 'local'.
