In December 2006 the album was released in Canada and on February 3, 2007 in Australia. It was released in the United States officially on March 13, 2007 via Universal Republic. The tracklist for the U.S. release is the same as the non-U.K. international release with an extra track, "You Know I'm No Good" featuring Ghostface Killah. The album debuted on the U.S. Billboard 200 at number seven, selling about 51,000 copies in its first week on the chart.[2] According to Nielsen SoundScan, as of June "Back to Black" has sold over 817,000 albums in the U.S. (certified Gold) making it the 23rd best-selling record of 2007.[3] Upon the week of release in the U.S., copies had the same cover as all other versions, however, the following week copies with alternate covers were found in store. The track "Tears Dry On Their Own" features the backing music from the Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell hit, "Ain't No Mountain High Enough".
In July 2007, the album made the shortlist for the 2007 Mercury Music Prize. Other nominees include Klaxons, Dizzee Rascal, and the incumbent winner Arctic Monkeys. This is the second time Winehouse was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize, her debut album ''Frank'' was shortlisted in 2004.
