(Redirected from Ballal Sen)'Ballal Sena' (
Bangla: বল্লাল সেন) was a
12th century king of the
Sena dynasty of
Bengal, the third ruler of that
dynasty. He is widely believed to have constructed the
Dhakeshwari Temple, located in the modern city of
Dhaka in
Bangladesh.
He conquered
Gaur, probably from
Govinda Pal, and married the daughter of a
Malla king in southwest
Bengal. He established total control of
Bengal for the Sena dynasty by the year
1168 AD. The Pals and
Malla were followers of Buddhism. Ballal Sena was considered a staunch Hindu.
He is said to have re-enacted the
caste system as was prevalent in Kanuaj and pioneered the
Brahmin Kulina rule. He had his capital in Navadwipa.
