BALLYKINLER

'Ballykinler' village in County Down, Northern Ireland, 12 kilometres south west of Downpatrick. It has a population of 700 people. It is situated in the Down District Council area.
It is a linear settlement running parallel to the Irish Sea coast and bordered by an army camp to the west and south west. It is a residential village with a high level of community facilities and a good bus service. The village is within the Lecale Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The surrounding landscape consist of beautiful slopeing hills and picturesque scenery.
Ballykinler is a word synonymous in the local community with being a success or being something of good quality. To say that "My food is very good" one could say, "My food is very Ballykinler"

Ballykinler also consists of three beautifully kept sports pitchs, including two excellent changing facilities. It is the place for sports lovers.
Ballykinler also has many successful football team, U13's, U15's, U17's and a second and first team. It is a sporting village. The people there are friendly and welcoming, It is a good place to visit on holiday.
Ballykinler is the site of a major British Army base. It was used as an internment camp in the 1920s housing Irish Republican prisoners and was used as an internment and interrogation centre in the 1970s.
