BARCELONA METRO LINE 2
— 'Line 2', also known by the names of its termini, currently 'Paral·lel' - 'Pep Ventura', is a metro line in Barcelona operated by TMB, coloured purple and sometimes simply called ''lÃnia lila''. It's part of the city's ATM fare-integrated transport network. As for its architecture, it's not too different from older Barcelona Metro lines when it comes to the network's trademark sobriety and lack of ornament, but is noticeably more illuminated and incorporates some more modern architectural principles —as it was built in the 1990s— and its stations feature some unique designs.
As of 2007, its termini are Paral·lel, in the Sants-Montjuïc district, and Pep Ventura, in Badalona. It's going to be extended southbound into Montjuïc and the immediacy of Plaça Espanya, with the addition of Fira 2, and maybe even to the El Prat airport; and northbound further into Badalona in the new station Badalona Centre, where this line will be joined by L1 for a more extensive coverage of this municipality north of Barcelona proper.
Although its construction started in the 1960s, it wasn't open until 1995, three years after the 1992 Summer Olympics, the event the line was supposed to be already open for, which makes it the second newest metro line in the network (after L11). All of its stations are underground.
