'Barrington High School' is a public four-year high school located in Barrington, Illinois, a northwest suburb of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. It is part of Barrington Community Unit School District 220.

Barrington High School opened up in 1949. In 1989, BHS celebrated its inaugural Springfest featuring Paraphernalia and Park Hill Drive.

Academics


In 2005,Barrington had an average composite ACT score of 23.5, and graduated 98.3% of its senior class. The average class size is 22.9. Barrington has not made Adequate Yearly Progress on the Prairie State Achievement Examination, a state test part of the No Child Left Behind Act.[1]
This school is ranked #665 on Newsweek's 2007 list of the Best High Schools in America.[2]
According to the College Board, Barrington High School ranks in the top 1% of more than 14,350 high schools both nationally and internationally for the number of AP exams taken by students. District 220 has received the 2004 Bright A+™ award for academic excellence from SchoolSearch. Barrington schools rank in the top 5% of Illinois districts, and SchoolMatch® has selected District 220 as being among the top 16% of the nation's public school districts being recognized through their Educational Effectiveness Audits. The Physics Program, developed over 25 years, was featured in a PBS documentary produced by Kurtis Productions and in "Beyond 2000", an Australian television production. The Fine Arts Department is also one of the most comprehensive in Illinois. The studio-based art program received a state award for excellence, and an in-house gallery features regional and professional artists. The music department has received two consecutive Grammy Awards for outstanding programs.
Ninety eight percent of Barrington's graduates enroll in college or post-graduate training programs.

Athletics


Barrington competes in the Mid-Suburban League West Conference and Illinois High School Association. Its mascot is the Broncos.
Barrington's baseball team was the state Class AA champion in 1986 and finished second the following two years. The boy's golf team won the state Class AA title in 1992. The girls won the state gymnastics title in 2000 and the cross country title in 2003. In the fall of 1998, the Barrington football team finished 2nd in class 6A with a 13-1 record.
Dan Doering, an offensive tackle graduating in 2005, was named first team all-American by USA Today, Parade Magazine and EA Sports as a senior. Dan Stevenson graduated from BHS in 2001 and has been a three year starter for the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. Stevenson was drafted in the 6th round by the New England Patriots.
In recent years, Barrington has dominated many sports in the 12 school Mid-Suburban League, compiling multiple league championships on a yearly basis. Barrington has also garnered a reputation across the state for consistent success in a multitude of sports, most notably for tennis, lacrosse, swimming, hockey, soccer, and volleyball.
Barrington's boys and girls swim teams have always been strong. In 2006 the girls went on to take 2nd place at the IHSA state finals while the boys hope to make a state appearance and place top 10.
During the fall season of 2006, both the girls cross country as well as the girls swimming and diving teams took second in state. The girls volleyball team took fourth in state.
In fall of 2005, Barrington girls tennis received second in state. This was Barrington's best season for several years. Seniors Jessica Linden, Whitney Martin, and sophomore Kelsey Linden all placed high in state. Kelsey Linden and Whitney Martin won the state doubles tournament giving Barrington a huge boost of points for state. In 2006, girls' tennis was ranked sixth in state.
The football team also made an elite eight appearance during the fall season. In the spring of 2006, girls soccer took second in the state after making an elite eight appearance in 2005. During the spring season of 2007, the girls track and field team placed 1st at the state. The boys JV Hockey team placed first in state for the first time since the '80s. Varsity made it to the quarter-finals.
