History
The school opened its doors to the first wave of students in 1978 as the third high school in the area, with the senior class graduating in Spring 1979.

The building has been extensively expanded and remodeled over the years to keep up with the increasing student numbers.
Athletics
Barron G. Collier High School is one of the seven members of the Collier County Athletic Conference. The school's official list of sports is separated by season.[1] In 2006, the Barron Collier Cougars Varsity Girls Basketball won the Class 5A state championship. The school also has a Lacrosse Club. The main athletic crosstown rivals are Naples High School, Lely High School, and Gulf Coast High School.

The Barron Collier Marching Cougar band is widely regarded as one of the state's premier high school marching bands. They have won numerous accolades and had the distinction to perform in numerous parades throughout the United States including performances in Australia, New Zealand, England, Germany, Austria, France, and recently China.

Campus
The main BCHS campus consists of a large building with a small courtyard towards the east side of the building. Most of the building is on a single level, however there are several classrooms on a second floor above the media center.
An auxiliary building contains the ROTC classrooms. The school also includes computer labs, two gymnasiums, a football stadium, a cafeteria with patio, a media center, a TV production studio, darkrooms, and an auditorium.
Also located on the same plot of land is the School District Administrative Building and Osceola Elementary school.
