Biography

Early life

Corbin was born in Lamesa, Texas, the son of Kilmer Blaine Corbin, a judge and Texas State Senator (1948-1956), and Alma La Merle Scot Brooks, a school teacher. A former United States Marine, he studied theater at Texas Tech.[1]
Career

He began his career as a Shakespearean actor back in the 1960s, but today Barry is most likely to be seen in the role of the local Sheriff, military leader, or other authority figure, though on occasion, he has effectively portrayed murderous villains as well.
Television viewers may remember him best for his portrayal of former astronaut Maurice Minnifield on ''Northern Exposure'', for which he received an Emmy nomination. To moviegoers he's best remembered as the General in ''WarGames'', John Travolta's uncle in ''Urban Cowboy'', or Roscoe Brown, who was July Johnson's bumbling deputy, in the acclaimed western ''Lonesome Dove''.
While many of his films have been westerns, his proficiency in the saddle is no act. Much of his spare time is spent riding on his small Texas ranch, and he has volunteered his time to charity rodeos for many years.
In 1994, Corbin narrated the acclaimed TBS documentary MoonShot, telling the story of the 1960s space race from the first-person viewpoint of Mercury Seven astronaut Deke Slayton.
