=Academics=
In 2005, Batavia had an average composite ACT score of 22.2, and graduated 78.3% of its senior class. The average class size is 29.4. .[1]
=Athletics=
Batavia competes in the Western Sun Conference (since 2006) and is a founding member of that organization. The school is a full member of the Illinois High School Association. Batavia's mascot is a Bulldog. In 2006 their football team placed 2nd at the IHSA class 6A State Championship. At the 2007 state track meet Natalie Tarter placed second in the 110 hurdles, third in the 300 hurdles, and fourth in the 100 meter dash. Their only state champion titles so far came from their basketball team in 1912 and pole vaulter Brittney Bernardoni at the state track and field meet in 2006. In the fall of 2006, the Batavia Bulldogs made a state run as a football team. They appeared in only their second state final game ever (first one in 1912). On the way the Bulldogs posted an 8-1 regular season record. In the first round of the playoffs the Bulldogs easily defeated Crystal Lake Central. In the second round, against St. Viator, the Bulldogs made a late rally with sophomore (2009 grad) Jordan Coffey hitting senior Alex Warner (2007 grad) on a 77 yard game winning touchdown. Third round, against Cary Grove, the Bulldogs won on a last second 2pt. conversion called by head coach Mike Gaspari. Fourth round, the Bulldogs won easily 28-0 against their inferior rival to the north, Geneva. This made the season total of the Bulldog-Viking contests 52-6. In the state final game against Normal High School, Batavia's starting QB, Alex Shroeder (2007 grad) left the game early in the 2nd quarter with a separated shoulder. It. was time for Jordan Coffey to step back in. After three picks, one being returned for a touchdown, Coffey marched the Bulldogs up and down the field in the second half. The Bulldog offense scored twice on big passes, one from Coffey to fellow sophomore Ryan Webb, and one to senior Dan Schmidt. In spite of these big plays the Bulldogs fell 20-30 and finished an unbelievable run. IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING!
