Bay Village is located at (41.484193, -81.926581).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 18.4 km² (7.1 mi²). 12.0 km² (4.6 mi²) of it is land and 6.3 km² (2.5 mi²) of it (34.56%) is water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there were 16,087 people, 6,239 households, and 4,685 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,341.5/km² (3,473.4/mi²). There were 6,401 housing units at an average density of 533.8/km² (1,382.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.05% White, 0.27% African American, 0.02% Native American, 0.72% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.21% from other races, and 0.72% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.98% of the population.
There were 6,239 households out of which 34.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.8% were married couples living together, 7.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.9% were non-families. 22.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.01.
In the city the population was spread out with 25.9% under the age of 18, 4.4% from 18 to 24, 26.4% from 25 to 44, 29.0% from 45 to 64, and 14.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 92.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.9 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $70,397, and the median income for a family was $81,686. Males had a median income of $61,057 versus $36,061 for females. The per capita income for the city was $35,318. About 2.0% of families and 3.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.9% of those under age 18 and 4.2% of those age 65 or over.
In 2004 only 79 crimes were reported within the city, making it the safest city in the United States with a population greater than 10,000.

Education


The Bay Village School District is ranked statistically as being the 2nd best out of Cuyahoga County's 31 Public School systems after Solon City Schools and is highly ranked at the state and national levels.
Newsweek Magazine has ranked Bay High School in the top three percent of high schools nationally on its 2006 ranking of the top 1,000 U.S. high schools (number 508).

Athletics


Bay High School is a member of the West Shore Conference along with Avon, Fairview Park, Firelands, Midview, North Ridgeville, Rocky River, and Vermilion. The colors are blue and white, and the mascot is the Rocket.

Amy Mihaljevic, 10 year-old girl whose picture was broadcast nationally after she was abducted from the Bay Square shopping plaza on October 27, 1989. Her murdered body was later found in Ashland County, Ohio. Her case remains one of Ohio's most famous unsolved murders.

Eliot Ness moved to Bay Village after alcohol prohibition ended, where he took up a job as Director of Public Safety in Cleveland.

Richard Patrick, lead singer of the band Filter and former guitarist for Nine Inch Nails, grew up in Bay Village and graduated from Bay High School. His brother, actor Robert Patrick lived in Bay Village after graduating from high school in Georgia [2]. Robert is known for his role as T-1000 in ''.
