History


Beacon is one of 57 small city school districts in New York State serving the small City of Beacon and part of the Town of Fishkill. Located just over an hour, 59 miles, north of NYC along the eastern bank of the Hudson River, the Beacon City School District covers the City of Beacon and portions of Fishkill and Wappingers.
The district is composed of four elementary schools, a middle school, a high school, administration building as well as a transportation facility. It has a student enrollment of 3,700 students and a budget of 48.2 million dollars.

Forrestal Elementary School


Located at 125 Liberty Street, Beacon, New York 12508. Named for James Forrestal the school has students ranging from Pre-Kindergarten to the 5th Grade.

South Avenue Elementary School


Located at 60 South Avenue, Beacon, New York 12508. As with Forrestal Elementary School, it's students range from Pre-Kindergarten to 5th Grade. The school is the largest of all the Elementary Schools and serves as the city's magnet school.

Glenham Elementary School


Located at 20 Chase Drive, Glenham, New York 12524. As with all other Elementary Schools in the Beacon City School District, ranges from Pre-Kindergarten to 5th Grade.

Sargent Elementary School is located at 29 Education Drive, Beacon, New York 12508.

Rombout Middle School


Rombout Middle School is located at 84 Matteawan Road, Beacon, New York, 12508. The school, during the past year and a half has gone though major construction resulting in a whole new addition to school and more classrooms.

Former Beacon High School


The old Beacon High School was shut down in order to make a proper transaction from the old high school to the New Beacon High School. The school was then turned into an alternative high school for several years. It served as the city's high school since 1913, before being closed in 2002. The school was should to an art group in 2002 who defaulted on the mortgage in 2006. The school is now back in the hands of the district who maintains it for the art group until they make a decision of what they will do with the building.

New Beacon High School


The new Beacon High School was finished in 2001 and was opened in 2002. The school currently educates about 1,000 students. Beacon High has several wings and features such amenities as an indoor swimming pool, and the largest theatre north of North Rockland, and south of Albany.
