BELLINGHAM, LONDON

'Bellingham' is a place in the London Borough of Lewisham. It is a triangular electorial ward consisting mainly of social/council housing build in the 1920’s on what was then farm land. Many houses have been bought by the tenants under the Right to Buy Scheme. However, the majority are still rented out to families by the London Borough of Lewisham. Although Bellingham refers to an electoral ward, the road Bellingham Road extends into the Catford South ward and is not part of the Bellingham Estate.
The Bellingham Estate is bordered to the east and west by railway lines running south from Catford. Along the south it is bordered by Southend Lane, the A2218 main road.
The River Ravensbourne runs through Bellingham, although it is either underground or part of a man-made section of the river.
