BEN BROUSSARD

'Benjamin Issac Broussard' (born September 24, 1976, in Beaumont, Texas) is a first baseman who currently plays for the Seattle Mariners.
He attended McNeese State and was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the second round of the 1999 entry draft. The Reds traded Broussard to the Indians on June 7, 2002, for Russell Branyan. Broussard went on to have a successful stint with the Indians, and was traded to the Seattle Mariners on July 26, 2006 for outfielder Shin-Soo Choo and a player to be named later (who turned out to be Jackson, Ohio native LHP Shawn Nottingham).
Broussard, who sings and plays the guitar, released a self-titled debut album in 2005. One of his songs was featured on a 2005 episode of A&E's series "Dog The Bounty Hunter". He has also been dubbed "The Human Beatbox Machine" by teammate J.J. Putz.
When playing for the Billings Mustangs in 1999, Ben had arguably the greatest offensive game in Pioneer League history. On July 12, 1999 Ben tied the Pioneer League mark with three HR's in one game and set the league record with 11 RBI's in a single game (later tied the following season). Ben threatened the single-season league home run record before being called up to Single-A in midseason.
On April 21, 2007 he hit the 1st pinch hit grand slam in Seattle Mariners history in a 7-6 loss to the Los Angeles Angels.
On May 5, 2007 he hit a home run in the 8th inning against Chien-Ming Wang, to break up a perfect game with only five outs to go.

Ben resides in Beaumont, Texas during the off-season, although he graduated from Hardin-Jefferson High School in Sour Lake, Texas in 1995. He and his wife Brenda have been married for seven years and have a new baby girl, Mia.
